I’m feeling much better today. GI system is calmed down which always makes me feel better. I had a good walk with the dogs this morning even though I didn’t want to go. As always, within 5 minutes of walking I felt better. I’m really glad that I stick to my morning routine because it puts me in a much better mood.
Work was good too. It always makes me feel better when I’m productive at work. Not having GI pain and feeling productive is a good way to have my day go.
It’s hard to believe that it’s been over 5 weeks on SCD. At times it seems so quick and others it seems to have dragged by. The kabocha squash sat well. When I was eating AIP (autoimmune paleo) I thought that kabocha and butternut gave me gas and stomach upset. Now I see that it wasn’t these particular foods but either another food or the combo I was eating. I’m glad to know this as these foods are yummy.
The dizziness I had yesterday seems to have gone away today. The pharmacy called me back to say that that was a possible side effect for some people (of course I had it) and that it goes away within a few days. When I increase the dose it may happen again.
I’ve done some research and found an LDN group on Facebook that has a lot of info from people who are taking LDN. Apparently a lot of people have side effects and increasing the dose should be done slowly. Some people start at 0.5mg and after 6 months on LDN they are only at 2.0mg. This made me feel better as I’m not crazy for feeling the way I am.
According to others, side effects can include insomnia (check), dizziness (check), crankiness (check), stomach pains (probably check), heart palpitations, racing thoughts, and nausea just to name a few. Apparently if you start low, like 0.5mg, and titrate up slowly it minimizes side effects. If you do get side effects they usually last a few days to a week so if you can wait it out they go away.
The benefits still outweigh the negatives. Many people in the group have been on LDN for years and report pain disappearing, lowering thyroid medications and antibodies lowering to undetectable. Improved mood and energy are also positive effects of LDN.
I’m supposed to increase the dose today but am going to hold off a couple of days to let my body continue to adjust. As I understand it there’s no rush to increase the dose as it helps to calm my immune system down. I think I’ll educate my doctor on a much slower titration schedule.
I was hungrier again today in the afternoon. I’ve lost some weight even though I’m eating a lot so think my body is trying to get back to equilibrium. Once I start adding more fats in I’m sure it will stabilize. The digestive enzymes continue to make a big difference in my digestion. Focusing on the small wins for now.
