So I got confirmation that the flax water didn’t sit well yesterday by the upset stomach I had this morning and the extra loose poop. Besides that I was pretty tired this morning too. Woke up at 3:30 but was able to fall back to sleep and was woken up by my alarm at 5:10. Walked dogs and got kids off to school with minimal yelling.
I had an appointment with my functional med doctor to go over my latest GI effects test which revealed what gut infections remain in my system. I took the test 4 weeks ago so it was pre SCD experiment. Actually the pain I was having right before taking the test spurred me into starting the diet.
Well, the original Klebsiella infection is still there, and the subsequent Candida overgrowth after 2 rounds of antibiotics to kill the Klebsiella, and a new friend called citrobacter. WTF? Every time I do an intervention to kill off an infection I end up with a new infection. The doctor feels like we have to balance my immune system and gently work to get rid of infections. I’m trusting her because she seems confident in her recommendations and is talking about things that I’ve heard other professionals recommend.
I also got my second autoimmune diagnosis. My body is making antibodies against the intrinsic factor that is made by the stomach that helps to absorb vitamin B12. I have pernicious anemia caused by vitamin B12 deficiency. This makes a lot of sense since all of my B vitamins were so low and not being able to properly digest my food making it worse.
The treatment is intramuscular injections of B vitamins which I have been doing twice a week for the past 8 weeks. I have noticed a significant difference in my energy from these shots so will continue to do this. This may be for the rest of my life.
I’m going to continue with the SCD diet because even though things are not perfect, overall I’m feeling better eating like this. Having these lingering gut infections it’s no wonder that I wasn’t feeling better just following AIP because there was still a lot of starch I was eating that was feeding the bacteria and yeast. My goal is to get rid of the infections, although I think it’s going to take a while, and get back to eating more of an AIP type diet. I’ve been at this for a year and a half so it’s a little disheartening but my doctor is determined to find the root cause of all of this.
I was able to do yoga this afternoon which helped with the stress I was feeling about my health issues. I also had green beans again which I think are sitting well. The bloat and belching that happened yesterday didn’t happen today so gonna chalk that up to the flax water and not eat it again.
I made another new recipe called chicken bread compliments of the website www.scdandme.com. Delicious recipe! I sliced it into thin slices and had some for a snack. Very tasty!
Pre breakfast-2 tbsp collagen and colostrum
Breakfast- chicken soup with turkey thrown in
Snack-1/2 banana and some chicken bread
Lunch-beef-liver muffins, spinach and butternut squash
Dinner-shrimp, butternut squash, green beans and spinach
